Harper Smiles for Mommy!

Today Harper smiled for mommy! After being up since 3:30AM this morning and watching the sunrise I didn't' think I was going to make it through the day with out at least two naps.  When 3:30PM rolled around and I still hadn't lied down yet, a smile was all it took to keep me going.

Harper's 2 Month Birthday!

Harper is 2 months today and 8 whole pounds!  She is getting so big and staying alert for longer periods of time too.  She got to sleep in this morning, all snuggled up to mommy, and then got a bath in the afternoon.  She spent the rest of the day napping with dad, and got to go on a walk in the park with Laney and the fam before sunset.  Good day for all!

Birthday Bonanza

This was the week of birthdays.  Monday we took our first road trip to grandma and grandpa's house for an early celebration for Ryan's birthday.  We had Ryan's favorite, leg of lamb and roasted potatoes.  Uncle Josh and Aunt Tammie joined us for the evening got to see Harper for the first time!  Harper was honored to be the first baby that Tammie had ever held.

Tuesday, the 18th, we celebrated "Glamma" Kathy's birthday at Mimi and Papa's.  We had a delicious dinner, and toasted to the new grandma, but inevitably Harper stole the show.  She was the center of attention and everyone waited anxiously for their turn to hold little miss bright eyes.

Thursday, the 20th, Ryan turned the BIG 3-0!!  We took advantage of the free babysitting and hit the town for our first date night out since Harper's arrival.  While the wining and dining was fabulous, we failed babysitting 1-0-1 when we realized during the second course that we had both forgotten our cell phones!  Our stress continued to climb when it took the server nearly 30 minutes to process our bill because all the computers were down!  In the end we had a great evening and learned our lesson.  Next time we'll be more prepared.

Thank God for insurance

Today we received our bill from the hospital for Harper's extended stay at the NICU and it was steep.  $718,794.89 to be exact.  We're still waiting for our insurance company to contact us with the amount that we owe, but at least we aren't responsible for that insane number.  That's nearly $18,000 per day for Harper's incredible care!  Even if we were responsible for full amount, she is worth every penny!

A Very Merry Unbirthday!

Today is Harper's very merry unbirthday...or the day she was supposed to be born.  She weighed in at 7lb. 2oz. today and looked adorable in her cupcake outfit.  She spent most of the day eating, napping and snuggling up to mom and dad.

Happy Mother's Day

Today was the most fabulous mother's day any mom could ever ask for.  Ryan surprised me in the morning with two gorgeous diamond rings under my pillow.  One ring for me and one for Harper.  Fortunately for me, I get to where both of them until Harper turns 18.
We had a wonderful brunch with family, prepared by Grandpa Salkeld and got to spend the rest of the day with our beautiful baby girl.  This just may be my favorite new holiday.

Harper's First Trip to the Doctor

On Tuesday Harper had her first visit with her pediatrician. It was the first time that mom and dad had to get everyone ready and out of the house too! Giving ourselves an hour and a half to change her diaper, feed her and get ready seemed like plenty of time, but somehow mom still didn't get her shower and we found ourselves eating granola bars for breakfast in the car.

Harper, however, was totally set and completely satisfied.  She looked so cute in her pink polka dot outfit and seemed very content on the car ride there.  The doctor confirmed that she is healthy and has gained 5 oz. since leaving the hospital on Sunday!

Just to give you an idea of how much bigger she's gotten, we took a picture of her bathing accommodations before and after her discharge from the Intensive Care Nursery.  Next week: swimming lessons.

Harper's Homecoming!!

Yesterday we got to bring Harper home....FINALLY!

It was such a long awaited and happy day for our family.  Mom and dad enjoyed a romantic evening out Saturday night, followed by a delicious brunch Sunday morning.  While we were there we picked up cup cakes and cookies for the doctors and nurses (per Harper's request) and delivered them to the hospital to thank them for taking such good care of our baby girl.

Then, it was go time!  We signed a few papers, unplugged the last of the wires, dressed her in her cute little outfit and were headed on our way.

When we arrived home we introduced her to her older sister Laney.  As we suspected Laney was curious and anxious to meet the newest addition to the family but seems to be at peace with her new sister.

We also managed to survive the first night and even got some sleep!  We feel truly blessed that we can now all be together.  We will forever remember this fantastic and memorable day.
